PokeSchool

Everything you need to go from beginner to competitive player.

What is VGC?

Open

VGC is the official double battle format. You control two active Pokémon at once, which makes positioning, support moves, speed control, and synergy much more important than in singles.

  • Two Pokémon act for each player every turn.
  • Protect, Fake Out, redirection, and speed control are core skills.
  • Team preview is often where the first advantage is won.

Bring 4 from 6

Open

At team preview both sides reveal six Pokémon, but only four are brought into battle. Good teams are flexible enough that several combinations of four still make sense into different matchups.

  • Build at least two reliable lead pairs.
  • Keep a late-game cleaner in mind.
  • Choose four based on the opponent's threat map, not habit.

Turn Structure

Open

Actions resolve based on priority and speed. That means Tailwind, Trick Room, Icy Wind, Electroweb, Fake Out, and Protect often matter as much as raw damage.

  • Priority changes move order before Speed is checked.
  • Tailwind doubles your side's Speed for a short window.
  • Trick Room rewards slower Pokémon and careful positioning.

Role Compression

Open

The best slots cover several jobs at once: speed control plus offense, redirection plus support, Intimidate plus pivoting, or setup plus endgame cleaning.

  • Every slot should solve more than one problem.
  • Support Pokémon still need pressure or durability.
  • Avoid teams where one fainted Pokémon removes the entire plan.

Reading the Meta

Open

Meta knowledge helps you prepare for what players actually bring. Tier lists, public teams, and usage data are signals, but your own testing should decide the final six.

  • Know the common S/A tier threats.
  • Bring answers to popular speed control modes.
  • Update teams when the ladder starts adapting.
